New public spaces

The Beorma Quarter will bring new life to the historic heart of the city and create, for the first time in living memory, a compelling reason to visit and enjoy this part of Birmingham.

At the centre of our plans is the creation of a new public route between Park Street and Allison Street. By extending the currently closed Orwell Passage we will provide access to the newly established Orwell Place, a public plaza hosting a range of cafes, restaurants and shops. This additional space will significantly enhance the local area by creating a destination of choice for visitors from the city and beyond.

The excellent design quality of the buildings and the overall development will bring additional benefits to the public experience, with Orwell Place receiving sunlight throughout the year. Additionally, the new Cold Store building will have open access to the central area, further adding to the dynamism of the public heart of the Quarter.

And, the neighbouring environment will also benefit from the development of Beorma. We will create a new boulevard along Digbeth, greatly improving the experience for those passing alongside our scheme.
